A Note From Us

We know what it feels like to open a dating app and wonder - is anyone here real? Fake profiles, scammers asking for money, people who ghost after weeks of conversation, unsolicited photos, profiles that look nothing like the person who shows up. These are real experiences that millions of people face every day on dating platforms across Kenya and the world.

NairoDate was built to be different. We will do our best to filter members and build a healthy, genuine community; but no platform can catch everything, and we will never pretend otherwise. You have to stay vigilant. These guidelines are not a list of restrictions; they are a shared agreement between everyone on this platform to treat each other with the dignity and honesty that genuine connection requires.

Welcome, let us build something real together.

1. Be Real: No Fake Profiles

The single biggest problem on dating apps worldwide is fake profiles. People using stolen photos, made-up names, and false information to deceive others; sometimes for money, sometimes for entertainment, always at someone else's expense. On NairoDate, we have zero tolerance for this.

Use your real name or the name people actually call you

Upload photos that genuinely look like you; recent, clear, and showing your face

Be honest about your age, location, and what you are looking for

Do not use photos of celebrities, models, or other people

Do not create multiple accounts or impersonate anyone

Do not misrepresent your relationship status; if you are married or in a relationship, be upfront about it

Why this matters: Catfishing causes real emotional harm. People invest time, feelings, and sometimes money into connections that were never real. Stay vigilant; if a profile seems too good to be true, it probably is.

2. Treat Everyone With Respect

Behind every profile is a real person with real feelings. The way you speak to someone on NairoDate should be the same way you would speak to them face to face. Rejection is a normal part of dating; how you handle it defines your character.

Be kind and respectful when reaching out after getting someone's contact

Accept that not everyone will be interested; and that is perfectly okay

Respect when someone says no, is not interested, or stops responding

Do not send unsolicited explicit photos or messages; this is sexual harassment

Do not insult, demean, or bully anyone based on their appearance, tribe, religion, or background

Do not threaten, intimidate, or harass anyone on or off the platform

Do not pressure anyone into sharing additional contact details before they are ready

3. No Scams, No Money Requests

Romance scams are one of the most devastating forms of fraud in Kenya and across Africa. The DCI has repeatedly warned Kenyans about criminals who use dating platforms to build fake emotional connections before requesting money. We take this extremely seriously; and so should you.

Red flags to watch for:

  • Someone who professes love very quickly without ever meeting you
  • Any request for money, airtime, or M-Pesa; for any reason whatsoever
  • Claims of being stuck abroad, in hospital, or in a sudden emergency
  • Profiles that seem too perfect; model-like photos, impressive careers, no flaws
  • Pressure to share personal details or meet up before you are comfortable
  • Investment or business opportunities introduced early in conversation
  • Refusing to video call or meet in person despite weeks of chatting

Do not ask anyone for money, M-Pesa, airtime, or financial assistance

Do not promote investment schemes, business opportunities, or MLM products

Do not use NairoDate to advertise products, services, or social media accounts

Report anyone who asks you for money immediately using the Report button on their profile

4. Protect Your Personal Safety

Meeting someone new is exciting. It can also be vulnerable. We want every first date to be a great story; not a cautionary tale. Take your time, trust your instincts, and follow these steps when moving from online to in-person.

Always meet for the first time in a public place; a cafe, restaurant, or busy area in daylight

Tell a trusted friend or family member where you are going and who you are meeting

Arrange your own transport to and from the first meeting: do not depend on your date

Do not share your home address, workplace, or daily routine with someone you have just met

Trust your gut. If something feels wrong, leave. Your safety is always more important than being polite

Video call before meeting in person; it takes 30 seconds to confirm someone is who they say they are

Do a quick social media check before meeting; a real person will have a real online presence

5. Respect Privacy: Yours and Others

What happens on NairoDate stays on NairoDate. The conversations you have, the photos people share, and the personal details people disclose are shared in trust. Violating that trust is a serious offence: both on this platform and under Kenyan law.

Do not share, screenshot, or distribute anyone's photos or messages without their consent

Do not threaten to share intimate images; this is a criminal offence under Kenyan law

Do not share someone's personal information with third parties

Do not stalk, follow, or show up uninvited at someone's home or workplace

Use NairoDate's privacy settings to control who sees your profile and contact details

6. Keep Content Appropriate

NairoDate is a platform for genuine romantic connections; not adult content. We maintain a respectful environment that anyone can feel comfortable using.

No nudity or sexually explicit content in profile photos or status posts

No violent, graphic, or disturbing imagery

No hate speech, tribal slurs, or content that demeans any group of people

No content involving or targeting minors in any way

No escort services, transactional relationships, or sex work solicitation

7. One Account, One You

Each person may have only one active NairoDate account. Creating multiple accounts to evade a ban or interact with more people than your plan allows is not permitted.

Do not create a second account if your first account was suspended or banned

Do not share your account with another person

Do not use bots, scripts, or automated tools to interact with profiles

How We Enforce These Guidelines

We take violations seriously. Depending on the severity, we may issue a warning, temporarily suspend your account, or permanently ban you from NairoDate. Serious violations; including scamming, sharing intimate images without consent, or threatening behaviour; may be escalated to the relevant Kenyan authorities including the DCI.
